I pull components from both urban and natural environments and recreate them using wax, wood, cardboard, and clay. By replicating common objects and shapes such as a door, stick, or stone, I am able to organize the chaos of the natural world. The doors and sticks are cast repeatedly by using the same mold. The circles are assembled over and over, becoming a mechanical process. The stones are shaped out of clay in similar forms. By reproducing each object over and over, I move away from original, “iconic” art. They can be viewed as individual works, but as a group redundancy and reproducibility are emphasized. Each piece is the same and not the same because of the subtle differences, which are an integral part of the processes. The transformative energy of familiar elements taken out of their natural context and reproduced in unrelated materials reflects both the repetitive practice of art making and the meditative environment that results.
